Cialis is an effective drug for many men who experience erectile dysfunction. The active ingredient of the drug is tadalafil. This is the longest acting medication, with a duration of up to 36 hours.

Indications

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED);
  • Lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia;
  • Erectile dysfunction in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms in the presence of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How does it work?

The active ingredient of the drug – tadalafil – increases male potency, which is realized by expanding the blood vessels of the penis. An increase in the flow of blood into the corpus cavernosum is accompanied by an erection. The drug starts working in about 20 minutes after administration.

Method of administration and dosage

Cialis is taken orally, with water, 30 minutes before sexual intercourse.

The effect of the drug lasts for about 36 hours.

The maximum daily dose of Cialis is 20 mg.

The medicine can be taken with food.

Contraindications

Do not use this medicine in the presence of any of the following conditions:

  • hypersensitivity to tadalafil or any substance that is part of the drug;
  • use of medications containing any organic nitrates;
  • age under 18 years;
  • contraindications to sexual activity in patients with CVS diseases (myocardial infarction within the last 90 days, unstable angina pectoris, an attack of stenocardia during intercourse, chronic heart failure of classes II-IV according to NYHA classification, uncontrolled arrhythmias, arterial hypotension (blood pressure less than 90/50 mm Hg), uncontrolled arterial hypertension, ischemic stroke within the last 6 months);
  • loss of vision due to non-arterial anterior ischemic neuropathy of the optic nerve (regardless of the connection with the use of PDE-5 inhibitors);
  • simultaneous administration of doxazosin, as well as drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction;
  • frequent (more than 2 times a week) use in patients with chronic renal failure.

Side effects

Possible adverse reactions:

  • headache, fainting, dizziness, anxiety, drowsiness;
  • back pain, lower back, myalgia;
  • myocardial ischemia, face flushing (redness, a sensation of heat), angina pectoris, increased or decreased pressure, orthostatic hypotension,
    vasodilation;
  • changes in the activity of liver enzymes, dyspepsia, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea;
  • laryngeal edema, rhinitis, rhinorrhea, shortness of breath, nosebleeds;
  • blurred vision, increased lacrimation, conjunctivitis;
  • an erection lasting for more than 4 hours (priapism);
  • photophobia;
  • deafness;
  • skin hypersensitivity, hyperemia.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms may include vertigo, sharp changes in blood pressure, increased sweating, a sudden rush of blood to the cheeks and neck, indigestion, decreased vision, etc.

If you think you have an overdose of Cialis, seek emergency medical attention.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

The drug is not intended for use in females.

Interaction with other drugs

Do not Cialis with the following drugs:

  • Angina drugs (nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite);
  • Certain HIV drugs (ritonavir, lopinavir/ritonavir);
  • Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin, rifampin, telithromycin);
  • Other pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) drugs (riociguat);
  • High blood pressure or prostate drugs (terazosin, tamsulosin, doxazosin, prazosin, alfuzosin);
  • Epilepsy drugs (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital);
  • Oral antifungal drugs (ketoconazole, itraconazole);
  • Other erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs (sildenafil, vardenafil);
  • Stomach acid drugs (magnesium hydroxide/aluminum hydroxide).

Special instructions

Use the drug with caution if you have congenital prolongation of the QT interval, anatomical deformation of the penis, sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, severe liver dysfunction, end-stage kidney disease, arterial hypotension, recent stroke and myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, hereditary degenerative diseases of the retina, a tendency to bleeding and with exacerbation peptic ulcer disease, aortic stenosis and idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.

Avoid combining Cialis with alcohol since alcohol reduces the effect of the medicine.
