Overview and Profile

Axiogenesis is an innovative and productive biotechnology company located in Cologne, Germany. Its primary focus is to develop novel assays that use differentiated embryonic stem cell (ES) and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPS) derived cell types that display normal physiological behavior. These cells are used in pharmacology and safety screening in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and cosmetics industries. The assays detect the efficacy or toxicity of new and existing drugs and chemicals on the developing embryo and differentiated functional tissue.

  • Axiogenesis murine ES and iPS as well as human iPS cell based test systems are a powerful tool for embryotoxicology, toxicology, drug safety, pharmacology, and drug development.
  • Axiogenesis has developed over 25 individual ES and iPS cell lines, along with protocols for their cultivation into more than 15 different tissues and is continuously working to develop new cell lines and types.
  • Axiogenesis assays currently focus on cardiomyoctyes, but the product line is expected to expand with the anticipated development of test systems utilizing stem cell derived hepatocyte, endothelial, neuronal, and dermal cells.
  • Axiogenesis proprietary technologies predict clinical behavior of a drug and identify pharmaceitically active ingredients of high eficacy.
  • Axiogenesis high and medium throughput screens identify compounds that display cardiac specific cytotoxicity and hERG blocking activity early in drug development.
  • Axiogenesis inventive technologies are high-quality, fast, cost-effective and safe; providing considerable savings of time and money in comparison to conventional in vivo systems.
  • Axiogenesis stem cell based cell assays significantly reduce the need for live animal testing and thus eliminate the ethical issues associated with that practice.
  • Axiogenesis' research and products are cutting-edge.  In an Ernst and Young business report it is stated that Axiogenesis is "distinguished by the development of a totally new kind of complete solution of a very high technical standard, which can be regarded as a future technology."1
